Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents, Winona Ryder's parents, gave her the name of the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors as well as editors. Ryder is a Jewish. Ryder believes that her father was from a Jewish origin. The actress has a younger brother Uria and two half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino County to California when she was 7 years old. The town didn't even have electricity. Ryder was an avid read and often spent her time studying books since she had no television. Ryder was 12 when she was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. Her first role was a success on the big screen in 1986, when she was 15 years older. Ryder faced bullying during her high school years. Her hope was that her career in acting would change that. Unfortunately that didn't come to pass. However, she kept working towards her dream. Her breakthrough occurred in the year 1988, when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued playing characters that made a splash in a variety of films. He was nominated for two Academy Awards were nominated, one of which was for The Age of Innocence (1996).
